The Carnegie Library in Niles, Michigan
the former public library, now chamber of commerce buildingThe Carnegie Library in Niles, Michigan, was built in 1902 in the Classical Revival style. According to the state historic register listing, the citizens of Niles raised $3,500 to purchase the land necessary for the library and the City Council voted to pay $1,500 a year for upkeep. These actions were necessary to obtain the Carnegie grant to cover the construction costs. For more on how Andrew Carnegie's library grants worked.
