| The Massachusetts State House Building was designed by prominent archtiect Charles Bullfinch, and completed in 1798. As with the Tennessee State Capitol (and a number of other state capitol buildings) the Massachusetts State House was intentionally placed on top of a hill. According to Wolfe, this made the building even more prominent when it was completed, as Boston at the time "was still a city characterized by low, medieval dwellings." | Status: Remains in use as the Massachusetts State Capitol, housing the Governor's Office and the State Legislature. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts offers a virtual tour of the Statehouse. |
