The Post Office in Abingdon, Virginia
The old U.S. Post Office in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Abingdon, Virginia. Status: Torn down in the 1950's. Unfortunately, the building lacked central heating and plumbing and consisted of solid brick walls three feet thick, which made adpative reuse difficult. Interestingly, the Town of Abingdon is now in the proces of constructing a new Police Department in the same general vicinity whose design will recall the old Post Office building.
