The Colorado Public Interest Research Group has information on its Sprawl Action Center Web site about efforts in Colorado to fight sprawl, and information on the financial "clout" developers have. Of particular interest on the Web site: a thoughtful and thorough Growth Management Toolkit; and the Smart Growth Hall Of Fame 2001: Ten Examples Of Good Planning Decisions In Colorado.
The Office of Smart Growth in the Colorado Department of Local Affairs is coordinating the state’s efforts to assist local communities as they plan for and manage growth. Governor Bill Owens' Smart Growth: Colorado’s Future initiative has four components: "Natural Landscapes", "Strong Neighborhoods", "Moving Forward" and "Opportunity Colorado."
The Boulder area has been one of the pioneers in controlling sprawl by controlling the expansion of public services to outlying, unincorporated areas. For more on Boulder city and county's "Community Service Area Concept" see the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan.
