  • The 1000 Friends of Oregon web site offers a tremndous amount of information on land use planning issues in Oregon. Since Oregon is often used as an example of innovative planning ideas for combatting sprawl, this web site should be of interest to citizens across the U.S. Of special value is the site's resource library; also take the time to read Executive Director Robert Liberty's speech, Is The American Dream Endless Sprawl?: Smart Growth and Its Meaning for People and Places which effectively addresses several of the principal arguments against growth control.

  • The Coalition for a Livable Future, a network of 52 non-profit and community-based organizations in the Portland metro area, has some interesting articles posted on its web site dealing with topics such as brownfields redevelopment; transportation alternatives; and displacement caused by rising housing costs.

  • Metro, the regional government for the Portland, Oregon, area is mentioned in the Regional Cooperation section of the Sprawl Guide.
