The City of Austin is in the process of implementing a series of "smart growth" initiatives designed, among other things, to guide development and deter sprawl. Take a look, in particular, at the City's "Smart Growth Criteria matrix," which was developed "to assist Council in analyzing development proposals within the city limits ... The matrix provides a list of urban design elements, location specific criteria and policy components organized within the structure of the three Council goals for Smart Growth." Do you know of a state or local program we haven't listed that fights sprawl? If so, please e-mail us the information at: editor@plannersweb.com, and we'll include it here. |
