Urban Growth Boundaries

Urban Growth Boundaries designate growth areas for development and create economic incentives for development to take place within those areas.
The State of Oregon has the most widely implemented system of urban growth boundaries, required by state law:
The Boulder, Colorado, area has sought to control sprawl through a comparable "community service area concept" (for links related to this, go to the Colorado section of this Guide).
The State of Tennessee, in May 1998, adopted a new planning law requiring cities and counties to develop growth plans, including urban growth boundaries, by July 2001 (for links related to this, go to the Tennessee section of this Guide)
