Urban Sprawl Blues

I ride by Turkey Ridge and Deer Run in my car
I ride by Elm Street, the drive is not too far
But there are no turkeys or deer that I can see
The developers made sure of that when they took down the trees

Chorus:

I got them urban sprawl, I got them urban sprawl
I got them urban sprawl blues
I watched another tree fall to make room for a strip mall
I got them urban sprawl blues

I live on Antelope Court, just off Rabbit Way
I drive down Oak Street each and every day
But I have yet to see antelope or rabbit run
It’s all just concrete with no trees to block the sun

Chorus

There are no quail or cougars or elk here
These creatures are long gone they won’t return I fear
We ran them all off to make room for our big homes
Then named the streets after them in the place where they once roamed

Chorus

You don’t see anyone walking down the sidewalks
And nobody knows their neighbors, they’re afraid to talk
And the traffic is much worse than it used to be
This doesn’t seem like such a good idea to me

Chorus (twice)
